Ordering a private commission by Cumbrian artist David Pooley

All of my work is completed from photographs. As I am unable see the subject to be illustrated in most cases, it is vital that the photographs you send me are clear, crisp, close-up and a good representation from which to work from. The more detail I can see within the photograph, the more detail you can see within your pencil portrait. Digital high resolution files are preferrable (file size at least 1MB) but I can also work from prints.

Portrait size is completely flexible but I usually work at A3 or A4 size (if there is more than one subject then A3 is advisable). Most people are keen to choose their own frame and mount so I do not include these. I always work on high quality, heavy weight, white paper.

When a portrait is complete I will E-mail you a scan of it so you can approve the illustration before it’s sent to you.

Prices start from £99 but each portrait is unique and the prices on this site are meant for guidance only. Please get in touch for a precise cost for your portrait. Also, there may be a need for posting the final illustration, and this cost is added to the invoice. I always let you know the price and it usually falls between £5.00 and £15.00, dependant on size and destination.

If you would like a commission in time for a special occasion such as a birthday please let me know and I will do my best to meet the deadline for you.

If you are posting photos (all will be returned). Please send them via 'Recorded Delivery', 'Signed for' delivery or 'Special delivery' to:

You can E-mail photos to me, please use a fairly high resolution so they are nice and clear. It may help to send them 1or 2 at a time if they are large.

Or you can send me your photos on a CD (which will be returned to you)

PAYMENT
I require a deposit of £30 to secure the commission. Full payment is not required until the portrait is completed and you are entirely satisfied with it (I will send an E-mail with a photo of the finished portrait for your approval before posting the original to you). When you are happy with your portrait I will then require you to post me a cheque for the full amount, I also accept credit/debit card payments via Pay Pal, postal order or cash sent via Special delivery. If you would like to pay via Pay Pal, please let me know and I will send you an E-mail invoice (this contains full instructions on how to pay, its very easy to use).

As soon as I receive your payment I will send your portrait via Special next day delivery (this is insured against loss or damage).
